EAT LIKE A LOCAL
South Bohemian cooking aimed mostly at people staying one night, so the gap between a good meal and a bad one is usually one street off the main drag.
Namesti Svornosti and Horni
The main square and the street running east off it hold most of the town's restaurants within a minute of each other. Kitchens work to the coach timetable, so it is packed from noon to two and calm again by three.

Krcma v Satlavske
Medieval-themed tavern in Satlavska lane doing meat grilled over an open fire - suckling pig, venison, poultry - with Budvar on tap and Moravian wine. Open daily 11:00 to 22:00, 80 seats inside and 40 on the terrace, so book on a summer evening.

Port 1560 on Latran - the old brewery
Guidebooks still send people to the Eggenberg brewery. It stopped brewing in 2014 and the Eggenberg and Petr Vok beers are now made in Pardubice; the complex reopened in 2024 as Port 1560, a cultural centre with its own small modern brewery and the restored 1867 brewing plant on show.

Eat at lunch, like everyone local
Czech kitchens do their real work at midday, and a weekday lunch menu is a soup and a main for a fraction of the same food after six. In a town this size it also means the difference between eating with residents and eating with the last coach party.
