Sunset at Playa Carmen
The daily event. Beach bars put tables out in the sand and the last surf lesson finishes in front of you.
The road bars
There is one road and the bars sit along it, so the evening is a walk rather than a decision. Take a torch: there is almost no street lighting.
Beach club nights
The larger beachfront places run DJ nights that go late, usually one or two a week rather than nightly. Flyers go up in the shops.
Mal País
The fishing end of the road south of the crossroads: quieter, with a couple of bars where the crowd is more local and less transient.
Fire and drum circles
Informal gatherings on the sand on full-moon nights, unadvertised and free. They happen or they do not.
