PICK YOUR BASE
The decision is noise: central Jacó puts you in the middle of it, Playa Hermosa and Herradura put a few kilometres between you and the strip.
Central Jacó, a block back from Avenida Pastor Díaz
Everything walkable — beach, sodas, supermarkets, bars — and the cheapest rooms in town. One street back from the avenue is the compromise most people should make: still two minutes from everything, considerably quieter after midnight.

Playa Hermosa, five minutes south
A handful of places facing a heavy beach break, with almost none of Jacó's noise. Suits surfers and light sleepers; you need a car, a bike or the bus to get back into town for anything other than what is on your doorstep.

Herradura and Los Sueños, north
A calm sheltered bay, a marina and condo and resort rentals rather than a town. Good with small children or a boat; there is no walkable centre, so plan on driving for everything.

Practical: ask what your room backs onto
The bar strip on Pastor Díaz runs late every night in high season, not just at weekends, and sound carries between buildings. Ask for a room facing away from the avenue, and ask specifically whether the building backs onto a bar or a club before you book.
