Costa Rica's national surf tour — run by the Federación de Surf de Costa Rica and titled the Circuito Nacional de Surf Banco LAFISE in 2026 — finished its 2026 season at Playa Hermosa de Jacó on 13 July, where the national champions were decided. Dates and venues move each season; the federation posts them.

The town beach is where the schools and board-rental stands are, and it is a forgiving beach break for a first week. Agree the lesson price and what is included before you get in the water, and do not let anyone move you down to Playa Hermosa until you can actually surf.

Three legs of a sportfishing series run out of the marina at Herradura, in January, February and March. Entering is a serious expense; watching the fleet come and go from the Marina Village costs nothing and is the busiest the bay gets all year.

The expensive end of surfing here: an all-inclusive surf-and-wellness resort in Jacó with up to five coached surf or SUP sessions, daily yoga, meals, massage and transfers included. Seven nights start around USD 3,690 per person in a shared bunk room and USD 4,390–4,990 in private rooms, plus 13% tax.

Jacó has no Primera División side of its own. The closest is Puntarenas FC, north up the coast road, and it is in the 2026 top flight alongside Saprissa, Alajuelense, Herediano and Cartaginés. UNAFUT, the league, publishes the fixture list.
