The things worth doing in Drake Bay, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Whale watching
Humpbacks calve in these waters, with southern-hemisphere animals around roughly July to November. Boats leave from the village beach.
Diving Caño Island
Two-tank boat dives on the reefs and pinnacles: white-tip sharks, rays and big schools. Certification required and the current can run hard.
Río Agujitas by kayak
Paddle up the river behind the village on a rising tide, through mangrove and into forest. Cheap, quiet and you can do it without a guide.
Sportfishing
Sailfish, marlin and roosterfish off the Osa. Full days out of Drake Bay or Sierpe, catch and release for billfish.
Los Planes
A steep track up behind the village to a farming hamlet and a waterfall, done on foot with a guide. Three hours, and most of it uphill.
