SPORT & SEASON
The oldest club in Chilean football is here and it is currently in the second tier, so top-flight football means going to Viña — which is also where the racecourse and the flat running is.

Santiago Wanderers, Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander
Founded in 1892 and still calling itself el decano del fútbol chileno, Wanderers play up in Playa Ancha. Be clear about what you are buying a ticket to: they are in the Liga de Ascenso, the second division, not the Primera. Fixtures are on the club site.
Everton de Viña del Mar — the nearest top-flight football
Founded 1909 and playing in the Primera División at Sausalito in Viña, about fifteen minutes away on the Metro. This is the first-division game if you want one; the club's details and squad are on the ANFP federation page.
Valparaíso Sporting, Viña del Mar
The racecourse in Viña, which bills itself as la casa de El Derby, Chilean racing's biggest day. There are ordinary midweek race programmes through the year as well; the fixture list and programmes are published on the club site.
Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo
An urban downhill mountain-bike race run down the city's hills, listed by the UCI in its 2026 mountain-bike calendar. Dates move year to year, so check before planning a trip around it — when it happens the stairways and alleys are closed and the whole plan turns out to watch.
Running here, and where to go when you give up
There is no flat ground in Valparaíso. Any run is stair repeats between the plan and the cerros, and most people end up taking an ascensor back down. If you want uninterrupted kilometres, take the Metro to Viña del Mar and run the seafront instead.
