Uyuni has no side in Bolivia's Primera División. The closest is Nacional Potosí, about 200km away by road, playing at the Estadio Víctor Agustín Ugarte in Potosí — one of the highest professional grounds anywhere in football, at over 4,000m.

An FIA- and FIM-sanctioned land speed meeting held on the flat itself, with the 2026 event set for 22–27 October. Entry is for licensed competitors with vehicles meeting FIA and FIM technical rules; spectators need their own transport out onto the salt.

The volcano on the flat's northern shore, climbed from the villages at its base as a long day or an overnight; the summit is above 5,000m and most parties turn round at the crater rim. Guides are arranged in Uyuni or at the base, and it is not a walk to do unacclimatised.

The dry crust is hard, flat and completely unshaded, which makes for a strange and popular ride out from Uyuni past Colchani. There is no water, no shelter and no navigation feature of any kind out there, so go with a guide or a loaded GPS track.

For a few months over the southern summer a film of water sits on the flat. It is what makes the mirror photographs possible and it is also what closes the crust to racing, cycling and much of the driving — anything involving speed happens in the dry months.
