PICK YOUR BASE
A town of a few thousand on one bank of the Beni: you are choosing between three streets, and mostly you are only sleeping here either side of a tour.
Rurrenabaque
Avenida Comercio and the centre
The main street running back from the port, where the agencies, cafés and most of the hotels are — Madidi Jungle keeps its office along it, between Vaca Diez and Campero. Everything in town is within a few blocks.
The Costanera, along the river
The riverfront road, nearest the boats and the view over the water, and where any breeze is. Rooms cost a little more for the position and you are closest to the early morning departures.

San Buenaventura, across the bridge
The smaller town on the far bank, now joined to Rurrenabaque by a road bridge that replaced the old boat crossing. Quieter and cheaper, and the national park office is there on Calle Libertad.
Book the nights around your tour, not the week
Almost everyone here is heading to or coming back from a lodge, and lodge packages already include beds and meals for the middle of the trip. What you actually need in town is the night you arrive, the night you come out, and somewhere to leave the big bag.
