No professional club and no stadium to speak of — here the physical effort is walking in Madidi and sitting very still in a canoe.
No top-flight football anywhere near
The nearest División Profesional clubs are Bolívar and The Strongest at the Hernando Siles in La Paz and Always Ready and ABB at Villa Ingenio in El Alto — a 45-minute flight or the best part of a day by road. No Beni side plays at that level.
Trekking in Madidi
Madidi covers about 1.88 million hectares and the walking is the point: guided hikes of different lengths from the lodges, on flat but hot and humid ground. Madidi Jungle runs three- and four-day programmes with guides from the local communities.
The Beni is not a swimming pool
The river is wide, fast and carries a lot of timber. People do swim, but where and when is a decision for your guide rather than for you — on pampas trips the swimming stops are chosen for a reason.
The season decides what you can do
December to March is the wettest stretch, when trails turn to mud and river levels move quickly; from about May to September the walking is easier and the wildlife easier to see. Nothing shuts, but the difficulty changes a great deal.
Getting to the trailhead is half the effort
Every walk begins with a boat ride measured in hours and often a landing straight onto a muddy bank. If you have knee or balance problems, say so when you book rather than at the jetty.
