THINGS TO DO
The things worth doing in Potosi, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Colonial arched facade with a flag under an overcast Potosi sky
Convento de Santa Teresa
A working Carmelite convent turned museum, with a guided tour on cloistered life and colonial religious art.
San Lorenzo de Carangas
A mestizo-baroque portal carved with mermaids and Andean motifs, one of the finest facades in the Americas.
Mercado Central
Fruit juices, salteñas and llama-wool knits, plus the miners' market nearby selling coca leaf and dynamite.
Tarapaya hot springs
Thermal pools 25km from town, and a rare chance to be properly warm in Potosi. Combine with Ojo del Inca.
Arco de Cobija
The surviving colonial gateway into the old city, a good marker for where Potosi's walls once ran.
