The things worth doing in La Paz, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Mercado Rodriguez
The city's biggest produce market, sprawling uphill over several streets. Best early, and the least touristy thing in La Paz.
Museo Nacional de Etnografia
Strong collections on Bolivia's Indigenous peoples, especially the textiles and ceremonial masks. Small, central and cheap.
Chacaltaya
A 5,300m ridge that once held the world's highest ski run, now glacier-free. Only attempt it after a week of acclimatising.
Feria 16 de Julio, El Alto
Thursday and Sunday, one of South America's largest street markets. Everything is sold here. Watch your bag closely.
Illimani viewpoints
The 6,438m peak looms over the city. Killi Killi and Laikakota miradors give the cleanest sightlines, best in dry season.
