Oud-Heverlee Leuven play in the Jupiler Pro League at Kardinaal Mercierlaan 46 in Heverlee, a 25-minute walk or short bus ride south of the centre. The women's side plays in the Lotto Super League and shares the ground.

The city's basketball club plays BNXT League games at Sportoase Leuven, Diestsesteenweg 394 in Kessel-Lo, alongside 43 youth and senior teams. Tickets are cheap by top-division standards and the hall is small enough that every seat is a good one.

The public swimming complex at Philipssite 6, with pools, slides, saunas, a climbing wall and squash courts, open from 07:00. It closes for maintenance for a week at the end of August most years, so check before you turn up with a towel.

An evening road race through the city on 5 September 2026: the 10 km sets off at 20:15 from Rector De Somerplein for €15, the roughly 4 km Family Run at 20:00 for €10. Entry includes marshalled route, supplies, showers and bag storage; it sells out.

Ten thousand hectares of forest on Leuven's southern edge with around 900 km of walking and cycling routes, free and open. Heverleebos is the recreational half with signposted loops and mountain-bike routes; Meerdaalwoud is managed for nature and access is more restricted.
