The city's Jupiler Pro League club plays in a 20,000-seat ground at Ottergemsesteenweg Zuid 808, out by the E17/E40 junction rather than in the centre, so allow travel time. Tickets go through the club.

Six nights of track racing on the indoor Kuipke boards in Citadelpark; the next edition runs 17–22 November 2026. It functions as much as a night out as a bike race, and the late sessions are the ones people go for.

Flanders' opening classic, which starts in Ghent on the last Saturday of February and finishes in Ninove after the Flemish Ardennes climbs; the 2026 edition ran on 28 February. Free to watch from the roadside.

Zuiderlaan 5, beside the Watersportbaan: swimming beach, kayaks and pedalos, skate park, athletics, tennis, squash and beach volleyball. Beach entry for non-residents is €1 booked before 9am or €5 on the day, free under 12, and there is free supervised open-water swimming on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6–8pm from June to September.

The purpose-built rowing course south-west of the centre, home water of Koninklijke Roeivereniging Club Gent and host of the Ghent International spring and May regattas. The path around it is the city's default free running and cycling loop.
