An alpine coaster running down the Maiskogel above Kaprun, with a family and leisure park at the same station. The gondola up starts from the middle of Kaprun village, so no car is needed.

A 20,000m² thermal spa on the edge of Kaprun with twelve pools, ten saunas and a separate children's and treatment area, open 365 days a year. Day tickets start from around €24 per person; the obvious answer to a wet day.

A narrow-gauge railway that has run west from Zell am See station up the Salzach valley since 1898. Steam trains go as far as Mittersill on Thursdays between mid-May and early September; reserve on +43 6562 40600.

The cable car above the town reaches a 2,000m plateau of easy loop walks, viewing platforms and disc golf rather than serious ridges, which suits children who can manage an hour on their feet. Return tickets €45 adults, €22.50 children.

Austria's biggest falls, 380 metres in three stages, at the far end of the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn line and run by the Alpine Club. The path is 4km long but the lowest cascade is only 10–15 minutes from the car park, so short legs can do as much as they like. Open mid-April to the end of October, with an entry fee.
