SPORT & SEASON
Two old rival football clubs on opposite edges of the city, an ice-hockey team out in the 22nd, and one Sunday in April when the Ringstraße belongs to runners.

SK Rapid at the Allianz Stadion
Gerhard-Hanappi-Platz 1 in Hietzing, opened in July 2016 with 26,000 places including terracing. Take the U4 to its western terminus at Hütteldorf, or tram 49 to Deutschordenstraße. The West stand is where the singing happens; buy through the club rather than resellers.
FK Austria Wien at the Generali-Arena
The other half of the city's football, out in Favoriten in the 10th district. Austria are the record title holders with 24 championships and 27 cups, and the atmosphere is calmer and more family-friendly than at Rapid — except in the Vienna derby.
Vienna Capitals at the Steffl Arena
Ice hockey in the win2day ICE Hockey League, at Attemsgasse 1 out in Donaustadt in the 22nd district. The season runs through the autumn and winter, tickets are far easier to get than for football, and the arena is small enough that cheap seats are still close to the glass.
Vienna City Marathon
The next edition is on 18 April 2027. Alongside the marathon there is a half, a relay, a 10K starting on the Reichsbrücke, a 5K that finishes on the Ringstraße and children's races from age three. The finish is in the centre of the city, so the last kilometres are the good ones to watch.
Wiener Eistraum on Rathausplatz
The city turns the square in front of the town hall into more than 10,000 square metres of ice, with skating paths threaded through the park and a raised SKY RINK. It runs 22 January to 7 March 2027, daily 10:00 to 22:00; skates are hired on site in sizes 23–52 and helmets are free.
