Ice formations inside the mountain, lit as a sound-and-light walk-through, reached by the cable car from Obertraun. The combined ice cave and Mammoth Cave ticket is €50.20 adults and €27.60 children; it is near freezing inside all year, so bring jackets.

Five steel walkways sticking out over a cliff high above the lake, a walk from the Krippenstein station of the same cable car. A panorama return ticket is €46.70 for adults and €25.70 for children.

A ten-minute boat between the Markt and the railway station on the far shore, running 365 days a year and timed to the trains. €4 one way, €8 return, cash only — a cheap boat ride that small children treat as the main event.

The lake shallows and warms at Obertraun, where there is a public grass beach with room to run about — unlike Hallstatt, where the bank drops away almost immediately. It is swimmable in July and August and bracing the rest of the year.
