Sydney's main mid-size venue, at 118–132 Enmore Road, Newtown, programming rock, indie, hip hop, electronic, comedy, theatre and burlesque most nights of the week. Newtown station is a short walk, and Enmore Road either side of the theatre is where the night carries on afterwards.

Outdoor bar on the lower concourse of the Opera House at Bennelong Point, open 10am to midnight daily with live musicians every day and no bookings taken — you walk in and find a table. It has been running with limited indoor service during renovations, with the Terrace Bar and Winnie's taking the overflow.

Cocktail bar at 115 Harrington Street in The Rocks, open Wednesday to Saturday, 4.30pm to 1am, with film-themed drinks and a deliberately theatrical service style. It is a regular on the World's 50 Best Bars list, so arrive early or expect to queue.

Single-screen cinema and bar in the lower ground of the old Paramount Pictures building at 80 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills, open since 2013. Doors 5pm weekdays, midday Saturday and 11am Sunday, all until late, with mystery screenings, film series, live music and cheaper Tuesday tickets.

Taproom at 44 Sydenham Road in the Inner West brewing belt, with a rotating tap list and the Bifana Lab food truck Wednesday to Sunday. Open 2–8pm Monday and Tuesday, midday–8pm Wednesday and Thursday, 10am–9pm Friday and Saturday and 10am–8pm Sunday; happy hour 4–6pm weekdays.
